Sensors & {data} | Hackathon

Get more info

Sensors are becoming ubiquitous, measuring every aspect of today’s life while generating enormous amounts of data. Internet of Things and Industry 4.0 are just two of the buzz phrases used to describe the next revolution of our data driven society and our digitized industry.

Up to 100 people joined us from 20th – 22nd July 2018  to be part of a vibrant Hackathon! We are trying to turn data into knowledge, buzz into reality, technological advances into economic and social wealth.

The Sensors & {data} | Hackathon brings together coders, makers, scientists, designers and business people to explore latest developments in sensor systems, networks, big data, machine learning and smart contracts. Participants will work on ten challenges to improve our everyday life.

Supported by 20 mentors and facilitated by the team which initiated Startup Weekend Rhein-Neckar and the {Life Science} meets IT | Hackathon.

We are working on the 2020s version of the Hackathon. Check back soon!

How do you handle intellectual property (IP) generated during the event?

Short answer: We don’t.

Intellectual property (e.g. inventions, code, …) belongs to those who have created it, in accordance with German law. We will not ask you to sign a waiver or any other document regarding intellectual property.

How can I hand in a challenge?

Send your challenge proposal via email to

Who decides which challenge will be presented?

The organization team decides if a challenge will be part of the Hackathon. Of course we are interested to choose high-class challenges with relevant future technologies. To secure the quality of the Hackathon and its challenges, we have to review the challenges.

If you are a team of minimum three people and you want to work on your challenge, the chance is quite that we consider your challenge. Nevertheless, your challenge must opened for additional people to join your team and work with you. There is no option to exclude other people.

Do I have to attend the whole event?

If you hand in a challenge, you should be there for the whole weekend.

If you join a team for a challenge, we have no doubt that you will be surrounded by inspiring people and you will be there till sunset. No matter, nobody is required to be present from morning till midnight.

Do I have to bring food?

No! We will take care about enough food (breakfast, lunch and dinner), snacks and drinks. We will provide diversified and tasty food (incl. vegeterian meals) throughout the whole weekend!

Do I have to pay anything to hand in a challenge?

No, you just need to get a ticket!

We are seeking for opportunities to sleep in Heidelberg. Is it possible to sleep at the venue?

Due to security reasons we have to close the venue at night.

But the orgateam will organize accommodation facilities for teams with a long travel distance. Please contact Paul Becker (+49 178 1918168 or if you are seeking for accommodation facilities.
